Applying for Federal Financial Aid

  3. Step 3

    Sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN)

    To complete your Stafford Loan application process, you must sign a Master Promissory Note with your PIN.

  4. Step 4

    Submit additional documentation

    You may be requested to complete additional verification or documentation.

When to Apply for Federal Financial Aid

It is preferable, but not required, to complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) after you have filed your federal tax return.

If you submit your FAFSA before you file your taxes, use estimated amounts and mark your filing status as "Will File."
